St James
Your child will join a community at St James that will give them the best introduction to their academic life and also the chance to learn and grow in a caring, sharing, giving, forgiving and thankful environment. We strive not only to help your child learn, but to lead by example.
As part of the Port Pirie Diocese and the Catholic Education System, St James School celebrates a long tradition of Catholic Education in the spirit of Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph, founders of our school. Established in 1880 by the Sisters, we take great pride in offering high quality education in a Christian environment, built upon the Catholic Ethos.
Our school is at the heart of the community of Jamestown. We support many of our families in their sporting and business endeavours in the town, and contribute to the life of the community in which we live.
Our class sizes are kept as small as possible, maximising individual attention and support to each student. Our staff are encouraged to attend professional development sessions to keep up to date with new developments and learn from the experience of others in order to provide the best learning environment possible in our school. Programs such as Reading Recovery, Rainbow Reading and QuickSmart help provide further support when needed, along with individual learning programs for students who have special needs or those who need extra support in learning areas.
Technology plays an important part in our everyday lives. This is reflected in our school with the use of interactive whiteboards in each classroom and the use of computers throughout the school, both in the classrooms and in our computer suite. As computer technology will be a very important part of the lives of our students for many years to come, we integrate into everyday learning, across the curriculum, with many computer based tools being utilised to aid learning in a way students enjoy.
